Welcome to the first of a multi part series looking at Australia Day in Sydney.
The day started with the customary look at the heritage buses operated by the Sydney Bus Museum, followed by a journey on the, soon to be withdrawn, Lady Class ferries to Taronga Zoo wharf.
 Buses and ferries are where my transport interests started decades ago. It was refreshing to spend a day back in that world, well away from the hatred of the railfan hobby. It is intended to spend another day on the Harbour Lady's again soon.

  Yet another wonderful show by Mega Rhythm Productions and our dear friend Conrad.
  We were honoured to attend with my cousin Pia and husband David.
  As a mostly English speaker, I did not get most of Willie's performance - however his impersonation of Erap was mostly understood and much enjoyed.
Atak seemed to be one of the true winners of the night. No matter what the language barrier, ATAK is just hilarious. His antics have you laughing from start to finish. A true Filo star.
  The supporting actors were fantastic, Jayden Rodriges (who I sort of met at the Blacktown Fiesta) was, as always, a full on crowd pleaser.

  Announced on the night was next years visit of Charice - this obviously being popular with the crowd.

  Still, and Conred knows, I still eagerly await Ely Buendia (Pupil), Yeng Constantino and, obviously, Maja Salvador ;-)

TYPHOON YOLANDA 

MANILA SUNSET DONATION CAMPAIN

  Anyone who watches the news would know of the recent typhoon to hit the Philippines. Yolanda, said to be the biggest in recorded history, has left the Philippines in a wake of huge death tolls and massive destruction.

  Yes, you are only human if you shed tears. Nobody could possibly watch all that footage and not be moved to do something to help.
  Thankfully there are many ways that this can be done and Manila Sunset is helping by taking food/clothing/shoes/medicinal donations, for sending through the generosity of BM Express and the Philippines Red Cross.
  What started out as an aim for around 2-3 boxes, has grown into a much bigger one for at least 10 boxes full of relief goods to help those thousands who urgently need it.
Every little bit helps those who have lost everything, please consider helping at this desperate time of need.

  Manila Sunset (Narwee) has worked with BM Express for 3.5 years now, and are honoured to be involved in their offer of free freight to help those in need. Thank you to Family Tagle and all the guys down in Minto for giving Aussies a way to help.

Full labeled Balikbayan boxes can be delivered straight to the BM Express Minto office.
Bags of that listed above can be donated for packing through Manila Sunset. Call us for details.
Money remittances can be sent direct to Red Cross Philippines via BM (or other transfer) .

It's hard to believe it has already been three years since we started Manila Sunset in the Sydney suburb of Narwee. During this time we have been lucky enough to make many new friends and have the opportunity of being part of the wonderful community around here.
There has certainly been the ups and downs, the occasional stress seeming to be a requirement for all small business owners in this country. At times you even find out that not everyone is out to be as kind to you as you try to be with them.
It has certainly been an interesting time of learning and meeting many people I would never have known and I look forward to the future.

Definitely a big surprise was the visit of Ang Kalatas (Filipino Newspaper) for a radio interview and newspaper coverage. While we have carried their publication for some time, it was the first time I've had the chance to really meet.
Ang Kalatas is available FREE in Manila Sunset every month.

Manila Sunset, in conjunction with BM Express and the Philippine Red Cross, are collecting goods to help those affected by the recent Typhoon Yolanda disaster in the Philippines.

MANILA SUNSET CHARITY WORK - PLEASE HELP

  Due to a relationship to the Quezon City Baragay of Payatas, we at Manila Sunset have a special attachment for the area. More than a place in which to stay while away, it has become a second home to us.

  Brad (Manila Sunset owner) met Pastor Jack Wilson of the 'Payatas Outreach Mission' on Facebook a couple of years ago, he also developed a special relationship with the area after a visit and now calls the area home as he tries to help the poor kids of the area.  

  Colourd Star Charities is a new organisation set up by a friend of Brad who wished to help kids in the Philippines.

  After an initial charity recipient failed, Brad saw a great opportunity to finally help those back in his second home. He brought the idea up of Colourd Star helping Pastor Jack and his amazing work.

  The rest is now history.

  If you are able to help Pastor Jack and the kids of Payatas please do, it is a very worthy charity that helps the Payatas young have a brighter life than they otherwise could expect.
